RE-naissance collection: the rebirth of old (family) precious stones
When I first set eyes on this antiquarian piece, I immediately though of a decoration – awarded honorarily, or honoris causa, as they would have said in Latin. This is in fact a brooch with a glass lid that could be opened. Inside it, its owner could keep a few strands of hair that had belonged to his or her dearest one. Residues of former mountings indicated that the brooch was nothing other than a reworked pendant.
By contrast, I resurrected the piece as a ring – meanwhile the third life of this little antiquity. And its name takes me back to my original idea: ‘honoris causa’.
