2019, the year in which this ring was created, is also the 250th anniversary of the birth of the great botanist Alexander von Humboldt. An important utensil on his expeditions was the vasculum, or botanical box, for preserving the flowers, leaves, seeds and stems he collected.
A cylinder had been left over from the modelling work done on another item of jewellery, and it now put me in mind of just such a vasculum. Thus the idea of designing a collection of ‘everlasting’ floral treasures was born: the ‘botanical box’ ring.
All the parts of the flowers have been wrought individually and masterfully brazed on to the vasculum and ring band. The ring band was engraved by hand too – all genuine hand craftsmanship.
